Virtualmeet.net Virtualmeet.net stages drug-free RAW global power- and weightlifting meets with near simultaneous lifting venues around the world. Participants lift at their own gyms and upload video footage of their lifts for judging. The results are adjusted by weight and age to allow everyone to compete together; the only classes that exist are those for men and women.

The idea that
discussion on a certain topic only happens within one website
is DEAD. People are using social media services like never
before... and increasingly people are using several at a time
as complements for each other.
An event can mean as-it-happens news
on Twitter, friend gossip on Facebook, a blog report on Blogger
and photos on Flickr. How do people follow this? Well,
often the old-fashioned way... email and forums ("hey, i
uploaded the goods to Flickr"...). But conventions for marking
conversations as being on a certain topic have emerged.
"The #kettlebell is sweet torture" is
the Twitter hashtag way... at YouTube videos can be tagged, say
powerlifting squat record NASA Masters 2009. And the sweetest thing?
Now someone searching for tweets on #kettlebell or YouTube videos tagged
powerlifting will find the goodness.
Virtualmeetverse = all discussions on virtualmeets
on the Internet... inside this box! Surely, a mouthful? Yes, we obviously
only track PUBLIC discussions and to find it out there we need to know where to look.
And this is where tagging discussions as being related to virtualmeets comes in.
At the moment the following material is automatically found in the Virtualmeetverse:
- YouTube: videos tagged with virtualmeet.
- Twitter: tweets directed at @virtualmeet or containing the #virtualmeet hashtag.
- Flickr: pictures tagged with the virtualmeet tag.
- Delicious: bookmarks that have been tagged with virtualmeet.
(note that some limitations may be in
place for various services. For example, Flickr does not show
pictures in the public search for accounts with less than five
pictures.)
What's in it for me? To stay
on the pulse without having to browse in here all the time, you
can subscribe
to the Virtualmeetverse feed or have
it delivered to your inbox (Virtualmeetverse is currently
updated about once every 5 minutes).
If you blog, upload meet footage to
YouTube it gets even better! By bookmarking your blog
post about the meet you did via Delicious with the
virtualmeet tag or tagging the meet prep video at
YouTube with virtualmeet you bring it to the attention
of the community. You get keen readers for your piece and the
readers get to know what's happening around a recent meet out
there. Win-win!
If you already posted some stuff
about virtualmeet, it's never too late to tag it!
Chances are it will appear near the top in Virtualmeetverse
during these early days with moderate traffic. And it'll
definitively lead the material to be added to our archives for
future enjoyment. :)
Feedback? Need help? Let kris@virtualmeet.net
know! Would you really like to see another service added
to Virtualmeetverse? Feeling totally lost about all of this?
Got a question? As usual, I'd love to help where I can. This is
pretty exciting. It may not take off like a rocket, but it does
open the door to some powerful possibilities.
See you out there (and of course, in here too)! o/ -Kris, Nov 16th 2009 (on a planet near you)
