NOTE 13 APRIL 2008: THESE ROLES ARE CURRENTLY BEING REVISED, ESPECIALLY IN REGARD TO THE STAFF ROLES. THIS DOCUMENT IS CURRENTLY NOT COMPLETELY UP TO DATE AND NEEDS TO BE AMENDED.
There are six different types of members in the Virtualmeet.net community. All of them are based on their role in the project; as roles shift, so does member status.
1. Registered member
Everyone who first signs up in this community automatically becomes a Registered member. Registered members are able to see the same boards as guests, but can also post and reply to topics on those boards that are not restricted.
2. Lifter
Lifter status is granted to anyone who signs up for a meet. This right is granted by the Meet director as s(he) accepts the sign-up. Lifter status gives the right to keep a journal on the
Meet Journals
board.
3. Judge
Judge status is given to those who sign-up to judge a meet by the Meet director. Judges can do anything a Lifter can, and also have access to the
Judging
board which functions as a collective repository for information and discussion related to judging issues. Judge status can be temporary (just one meet) or longer (for judges who wish to continue judging at least periodically). A Judge can also be a Lifter.
STAFF MEMBERS
These members are somehow involved in the running of the project itself, either on a temporary or permanent basis. Note that both Lifters and Judges can also receive some staff rights without becoming a full member of any of the groups listed below; for example, a Lifter could be granted moderating powers in a single board.
4. Meet Director
A meet director is a member who is in charge of one or more meets. It is the meet director's responsibility to announce the meet, send out meet information, locate judges, sign-up lifters as they register and to post the final results for the meet. The meet director is also responsible for making sure that the meet video footage and scoresheets get passed to the judges in a timely manner, either by doing so himself or by appointing another community member to serve as the video editor for the meet. A meet director can also be a Judge and a Lifter. The status of Meet Director is generally granted by an Administrator for a specific duration, typically a meet at a time.
5. Moderator
Moderators are the regular staff of Virtualmeet.net with the power to remove unappropriate posts or threads according to the moderating policy. Moderators form the inner circle of the project together with the Administrators. Moderator status is generally granted only to members who show a strong interest in the project and who wish to help run and develop it further. Having been involved in the project in some capacity is a requirement to become a Moderator. Moderators have access to all boards, including the
Moderators
board where issues related to running the site can be freely aired. Moderators can also access the web stats and have the right to a virtualmeet.net e-mail address if they so wish.
6. Administrator
Administrators have the ultimate power to do anything while being responsible for running and developing of Virtualmeet.net. This includes configuring the software, updating the web pages, appointing members to various positions and so on. An Administrator must be a computer savvy person who is deeply dedicated to the project. An Administrator can also be a Lifter, Judge, Meet Director and Moderator.
