Last night, the Virtualmeet.net server was moved from Texas to Washington, D.C. As this was a planned migration there was no downtime and no data loss.
The move was prompted by a price increase of 30% on the old server despite it being almost three years old. As evidenced by the recent
hard drive crash and
other issues of late, a server upgrade was in any case overdue.
Being on the East Coast, in an area that has some of the best fiber connectivity in the US, the move should lead to a noticeable performance improvement especially for our European members. The hardware, a Quad Core Xeon 3220 with 4GB RAM, is also much more capable and should provides us with a solid foundation for future growth.
