Title: Squat depth clarified
Post by: kris on September 03, 2007, 10:24:20 pm
As you all know, we follow the IPF regarding squat depth, i.e. the top point of the thigh at the hip joint must be lower than the top point of the knees.

The following article from the USAPL is an extremely valuable read that clearly explains depth and also looks into the "convincing depth" vs. "precisely at the legal mark" issue. Our judges have the benefit of being able to pause video to assess depth, but this is still worth a read for the insight into the human element in judging. The article also shows why it is important to set up the camera correctly to give the judges what they need; judging depth from the front just does not work unless you really do go clearly below the mark.

Please read and feel free to discuss below.
