Title: REGISTER: Challenge meet, 18-20 September 2009
Post by: kris on September 09, 2009, 11:31:50 pm
This thread is to sign-up for the 18-20 September 2009 Challenge meet only. Questions and comments concerning this meet should be posted in the discussion thread (http://virtualmeet.net/community/forum/meet-talk/294/0/).

The deadline for lifters to sign up is Wednesday September 16th at 10pm GMT; after this date, only judge sign-ups will be accepted.

To register for the meet, just post a short reply to this message. This implies that you:
  • HAVE READ AND ACCEPTED THE RULES (http://virtualmeet.net/meets/rules/) (the LATEST version of the rules!) AND THE MEET SPECIFIC RULES (see below)
  • AFFIRM YOUR DRUG-FREE STATUS (again, see the rules)
  • REALLY AIM AT DOING THE MEET, not just thinking about it. Of course, injuries and life can happen, so you are naturally free to cancel your entry if needed.

Also include which day you want to lift on. This day can be changed up until the sign-up deadline.

** 18th is on a Friday
** 19th a Saturday
** 20th a Sunday

Further instructions on how to submit the video footage etc. will be sent out via e-mail to all participants after the sign-up deadline has passed.

Those who wish to judge should also sign-up in this thread.

To make sure that you don't forget anything essential, we highly recommend using the checklist (http://virtualmeet.net/docs/meet_checklist.pdf) as a supplement to the rules (http://virtualmeet.net/meets/rules/).

THE LIFTS

1) Full range front-squats for max reps (bodyweight for men, 2/3 for women): hold the bar any way you like, as long as it is between chest level and chin level (however, no towels or aids like a Sting Ray are accepted). Reps must be full range; in practice, you do not have to do an absolute rock bottom, a tad higher is acceptable to keep the knees happy (but regular meet depth is MUCH to high). Example:

How weight is calculated:

MEN: bodyweight rounded UP to the nearest 2.5kg or 5 pounds.

WOMEN: 0.66 x bodyweight, rounded up to the nearest 2.5kg or 5 pounds.

2) Kneeling clean and press for max weight (aka Kneeling Military Press): This lift follows the Odd Lift Strength Association (OLSA) rules (http://www.oddlifts.com/lifts.html) with the judge sections removed:

Quote
lifter must clean weight from the floor and remain kneeling throughout the lift [..] and we do not allow exaggerated layback

In other words: you can clean the weight any way without removing your knees from the ground and without using aids/help, but when you press your buttocks cannot leave your heels at any time. No pause is required at the top, but there must be a clear lockout and a controlled descent. Once the bar has been returned to the chest the lift is concluded (you can drop the bar if you wish).

3) Bodyweight chins for max reps use any grip (wide, narrow, reversed, mixed... however, you cannot change grips in the middle of an attempt), but the chin needs to clear the bar for a repetition to be accepted. You can use momentum, but the feet need to be crossed and touching each other at all times and you need to return to a full hang (elbows not bent) between reps.

4) One-handed deadlift for max weight: grab a regular bar with the right hand, no hook grip or any grip aids except chalk allowed. Lift the bar clearly above knee level, then return it to the floor without dropping it. No lock-out is needed. Then repeat with the left hand. The result for this lift will be the total for the right AND the left hand. You do not need to complete the lifts in the same video clip and you can use different weight for each hand.

GENERAL RULES

 - You can take as many attempts as you want on each lift. But the lifts have to be done in the order listed above, and you cannot go back for more attempts once you started the next lift.

 - The maximum time for the meet is 3 hours.

 - A maximum of two clips for each lift are sent in (one is fine). Note that for the one-handed deadlift you can submit 2 video clips for right and 2 for left.

 - we will not put a big effort into scoring this meet. First, it is hard to do it in a fair way when bodyweights are involved. Second, the focus on this meet will be beating yourself and going all the way and beyond. Which of the lifts are impressive will be self-evident even without us attaching a precise score for each lift. Those lifts will definitively be highlighted.

Good luck! :)

Our first judge volunteer is Christian Burger (http://virtualmeet.net/burgerc/). Thanks a lot Christian!

Now this should me a fun (and pretty small) meet to judge. Anyone else interested? The meet sign-up deadline is now only some 24 hours away if anyone is still thinking about it... :)
